The BIS certification

BIS certification is The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), The ISI certification body, which certifies products. It is also the only product certification authority in India. The BIS comprises five regional bureaux and 19 sub-bureaux. It was formally established in 1987 to replace the Indian standards institute, established in 1946. The process of BIS certification

1. Submit the application and prepare the sample

2. Provide information

6. Registration of BIS local institutions

7. Local sampling supervision (local agents)

8. Certificate renewal (one month before the certificate expires after 2 years)

Information required for BIS (slightly more for initial application)

1. Application form;

2. An appointment form certifying the presence of a local agent in India, or a certificate certifying the manufacturer's Indian office, and a letter of authorization from the reserve bank of India;

3. Documents to prove the establishment of the company, such as registration certificate;

4. Process flow chart, showing the whole process of product manufacturing (from raw materials to finished products);

5. Quality control system (such as quality manual, quality control plan, test arrangement, etc.);

6. Provide other details of product or system certification, if any;

7. Provide details of components or raw materials used in the manufacture of the product, if any, prior to certification;

8. List of machines manufactured;

9. List of test equipment in the test process;

10. Product design drawing;

11. Laboratory supervisor, technical and QC staff qualifications and experience details;

12. Test reports from accredited independent laboratories or from the factory's own laboratory;

13. The layout diagram of the workshop clearly shows the main production machines, laboratories, etc.;

14. A map of traffic near the factory, from the nearest airport or railway station to the factory, and a detailed description of the journey from India to the factory;

15. Bill of exchange

The BIS certification cycle is generally 2 months.
